Have labs checked for a HgbA1c. If it is between 5.7 and 6.4%, you have prediabetes, which increases your risk of diabetes. Diabetes is diagnosed when you have an A1c of 6.5% or greater on 2 occasions. Eat more fruits and vegetables, have lean proteins (meat, fish, seafood, dairy, nuts, beans) and avoid concentrated sweets such as juices, sodas (even diet, which also raises blood sugar), sugary foods, white bread, white rice and white potatoes.
